Linking Campaign TipsThese linking campaign tips are all easy, additional things you could do to massively improve your chances of other sites wanting to link back to your site. Linking Campaign Tip 1
Let people know why it would be a good idea to exchange links with your site. ('4 Small Businesses' example)
Linking Campaign Tip 2
Show exactly what you would like to see put on their pages to link back to you. ('4 Small Businesses' example)
Linking Campaign Tip 3
Many web masters and link finding software packages, use the information in your home page source code, given in your Title and Description tags to find your site, and to make up the link back to you. So make sure that this contains your most important keywords, and is what you would want to appear in any links back to you. Here is an actual example I found from a major bank. Don't copy it!
They must think their bank is really good if it can compete with the other 1,670,000,000 pages listed in Google under "Home Page" !!
Linking Campaign Tip 4
Why not change a few key words in both very occasionally, to get links back with different keywords in? Don't confuse your Description with your Keywords. The following Description is not going to help your chances of getting a quality link back!
Finally - my pet hate, 'and more' on the end of Title or Description.
It says nothing, looks cheap and always looks better if you replace the last comma with 'and'.
Linking Campaign Tip 5
Many directories and linking software systems prioritize the links in alpha/numerical order. To give your link a better chance of being in the top places ensure the first letter in your Title and Description start with a numeral (nearest to 1) or a letter (nearest to A) Characters like #,$, can work in very competitive areas, e.g. '#1 AAA insurance co.', but I feel you would do better if you are a little lower down in the link-list, with a Title that doesn't annoy your potential visitors.
Linking Campaign Tip 6
Descriptions Written Like This Will Drive Web Masters Mad Trying To Remove The Capitol Letter From Every Word In Order To Make Your Description Look Good On Their Web Pages.
Linking Campaign Tip 7
If you have (or want) many links on your web site then you know that getting them can be really time consuming, tedious and boring! Make it easy using ibusinesspromoter - from Arelis '4 Small Businesses' researchers investigated 35 different programs designed to help with linking. Only a few had more functions, but at a much higher price. Unless you intend your site to be more 'directory' than 'content' I feel this is the perfect solution to managing your links. 'ibusinesspromoter' integrates brilliantly with any site by simply showing it an existing page with ##links## where you want the links to appear. It takes this as a template, and inserts your links automatically into the new pages.
To find links, make link pages, contact new and old link partners and check links (both in and out) ibusinesspromoter is excellent value-for-money. Could you check 1000 different websites to make sure that your links OUT from your site and IN to your site from their link pages, were all working ok, (and if not, exclude them from your site if you like) in less than 5 minutes? ibusinesspromoter can.
Could you find all of the links going to your competitor's links pages, complete with url's, Titles, Descriptions and contact emails in less than 5 minutes? ibusinesspromoter can.
Get it HERE , you will LOVE it and you will also LOVE their affiliate plan. Simply put a link to them on every link page and you will have the software paid for very quickly. ('4 Small Businesses' had the full purchase price of the software back in affiliate income in less than one month!)
Linking Campaign Tip 8
When your site has 20+ content pages and 20+ links pages, monetize the whole show by putting 'Google AdSense' adverts on each themed-link page. Google LOVES themed pages. Google's AdSense is a revolution in web site monetization. It's a tailor-made way to monetize your SBI! or tightly themed site! Rarely will a custom-made solution be dropped into your lap (let alone from the Net's smartest company), just begging you to capitalize.
Ride Google AdSense for all its worth. To get THE word on how to get the most from AdSense...
Linking Campaign Tip 9
Put your email address on your 'request for links' page. (or provide a simple form - see below) Don't let Spamming email address abusers get in the way of your legitimate business. To prevent spammers from automatically finding, and abusing your email read my Address Email Hide page to discover the best ways of showing your link to visitors while hiding it from the spammers search engines. Three out of my 4 solutions take only minutes to protect your email from all but the most determined spammers, and the 4th solution makes your email address totally invisible to all but your visitor looking at your page. If web masters cannot contact you easily to propose a link exchange, how likely is it that they will?
Linking Campaign Tip 10
Put a clear link to your 'Links or Resources or Web Partners' pages ON YOUR HOME PAGE.
If web masters cannot find your links pages easily, they will simply move on to another site. Try to get each of your 'links pages' as few steps as possible from your 'home page' and try to link with partners who do the same. Avoid link pages which look like this - This is another great advantage of using It can name the links pages automatically to ensure that all links pages are only one step away from the links-index page. To visit my link partners, the visitor can visit the 'business resources' tab on the 'home' page, (and every other page on this site,) which takes her/him to the 'resources index' page, where s/he will find every link on the site only one page away. This makes it possible (starting from the 'home page') to exit this site and reach every partners links site, with only 3 mouse clicks. This will increase the Page Ranking for each page. Also, put the word 'links' somewhere on your home page.
Linking Campaign Tip 11
Additionally to your highly visible Email address, put a FORM on your site for web masters to fill in to request a reciprocal link. SBI make this really simple. It is surprising how many people prefer to fill a form rather than email directly and can provide a continuous supply of incoming links to your site.
Linking Campaign Tip 12
Watch out for web masters who show you your link in their 'directory', which is nothing but a link farm i.e. the site has no original or useful content. If all you see on that site is links, and you are being asked to link to a different site which does have good content, then they are trying to fool you into a very one-sided link exchange. They get all the benefit and you will get none.
Linking Campaign Tip 13
Search engines probably give extra weight to incoming links to your site which link directly to a page on your site other than your home page, (called a deep link). If you think it would be helpful to your visitors, or your link exchange partners, to be linking to pages other than your home pages, simply state this on your link request Email. ('4 Small Businesses' example) I perceive this to be more helpful to my visitors, and to both parties search engine rankings.
Linking Campaign Tip 14
I think it best if your links out from your site all open up in a '_new' window. This way your visitor still has your page open if she decides she doesn't like the new link and closes it down. Why risk losing your visitor before she decides to leave? This can be done with the code 'target="_new"' inserted in the 'a href="...' tag, view my source code for this page to see how I do it, if you like. I prefer to use 'new' rather than '_blank' because your visitor only gets one window serving the links which refreshes with each new link, instead of loads of new windows. I also feel it is generally best not to open a new window when navigating within your site. It can be very annoying to visit a site and find 12 separate windows open all for the same site. The common exception to this rule is order pages, forms etc. If you prefer using 'SiteSells, Site Build It' (no html needed) to make your pages, then you can tick the box in 'SiteBuilder' to make the links open up in a new window.
Linking Campaign Tip 15
If you use 'SiteSell' to host your site, the first time you find any link which points to your site, visit it. This alerts 'SiteSell's' robots to the page with your link on it and then they submit this page to the search engines to be sure that the page has been found by them, so that you get the full benefit of the incoming link. If you don't use 'SiteSell' to host your site, you can get some of the benefit of this system by linking to many 'SiteSell' hosted web sites (like this one). The best way to find them is to use 'SiteSell' Value Exchange. This helps you to find high-value similarly themed sites quickly, to truly increase your link popularity in a way that the search engines love. Once you apply, you will find many high quality sites applying to you for a link exchange, and amazingly, It's Free.
If you know of another reciprocal linking campaign tip which you would like to see here, and that you think will help my visitors, please let me know. I would really appreciate it. If you would like to show your appreciation for these tips, simply link from anywhere on your site to anywhere on this site and (accidentally!) forget to ask for a return link.
